Vitiligo Treatment Program

Vitiligo:

Vitiligo is a non-contagious condition whereby white spots are produced on different parts of the body due to the lack of melanocytes (cells responsible for producing color). Areas likely to be affected by Vitiligo are the face and neck, scalp, hands, legs and genitals and, though to a lesser degree, the mucous membranes such as the inside of the mouth and nose. When Vitiligo appears on the scalp hair in that area turns white in color.

There are three types of Vitiligo classified by the number of patches and on which area of the body the patches develop:

  1. Generalized Vitiligo: This type is most common type.  It is the widespread of spots in a symmetrical way on both sides of the body.

  2. Focal Vitiligo: One or more spots in one area occurring mostly on knees, fingers, elbows, lower back or genitals.

  3. Segmental Vitiligo: This type is the least common. It is the presence of spots on only one side of the body.

The cause of vitiligo is still unknown however a number of studies have shown that it is more common with people who suffer from hyperthyroidism, pernicious anemia or adrenocortical insufficiency. Some of the factors that may lead to developing vitiligo are autoimmune reaction, genetic, oxidative stress, neural, thyroid disease, diabetes, sunburn, viral infection or exposure to certain chemicals are . Incidence worldwide of this skin disease is less than 1%, with some populations averaging between 2-3% and as high as 16%. It is most often diagnosed in people between 10 years old and 40 years old and is found in all ethnic, racial and gender groups though it is more noticeable on darker skinned people.

Treatment:

Treatment for vitiligo through our services is by using the ointment Melagenina Plus, an alcoholic extract from the human placenta mixed with melagenina and calcium developed by Dr. Carlos Manuel Miyares Cao. This ointment works by stimulating the reproduction of melanocytes around the borders and/or inside the area affected. Studies have shown that it is effective in about 86% of patients, and when used properly results can be seen within 3 to 7 days. Melagenina Plus is safe and can be used on children, pregnant or nursing women and the elderly without any side effects.

To receive treatment in Cuba for vitiligo consultation with a specialist must first be made.  Having evaluated the case, the specialist determines the length of treatment and indicates the number of bottles of the therapeutic product to be used.

Our experts recommend the suspension of all skin treatments 45 days before the arrival to Cuba.

Please note that the medication is not sold without an evaluation of a specialist and without prescription from a qualified doctor

Treatment of Psoriasis:

Psoriasis:

Psoriasis is a common, chronic, non-contagious relapsing/remitting skin disease. Normally, skin growth is slow and takes about a month to flake off. With psoriasis however, this process can happen in just few days causing the skin to develop thick, red lesions with white/silver scales that are often itchy and painful. The skin lesions seen in psoriasis may vary in severity from minor localized patches to complete body coverage.

Though it is still unknown as to why psoriasis develops, it is generally believed to be an autoimmune disorder in which the body mistakenly attacks healthy cells. A number of studies have shown that genetic predisposition coupled with environmental factors contribute to the development of this skin disease.  Stress, cold weather, injury to the skin, upper body infections, excessive alcohol consumption and smoking are some the environmental triggers for psoriasis. The disease affects 2 – 4% of the general population and is found equally among different ethnic, racial and gender groups.

Treatment:

One of the most effective treatments for psoriasis is Coriodermina, a topical, water soluble gel developed from the human placenta by Dr. Carlos Miyares Cao, with a success rate of 84.6% of complete clearing of lesions; 8.5% of marked improvement; 5% of minimum improvement and 1.9% of no improvement.

The success of Coriodemina is owing to the fact that it works by inhibiting and regulating the speed of the epidermic cells and by neutralizing cytokines and neuropeptides (molecules responsible for cell communication). Coriodemina is applied directly to the psoriatic lesions and is then absorbed by the dermal level (the middle layer of skin that acts as first defence against heat, light, infections and injuries) . The effectiveness of Coriodemina depends on the age of the patient; the percentage of affected area; the length of time the patient has been suffering from psoriasis and the correct application of the treatment.  Coriodemina is innocuous and can be used to treat children, pregnant or nursing women and the elderly with no side effects.

To receive treatment for Psoriasis in Cuba consultation with a specialist must first be made who will then determine the length of treatment and the number of bottles of the therapeutic product to be used.

Our experts recommend the suspension of all skin treatments 45 days before the arrival to Cuba.

Treatment of Alopecia Areata Universalis:

Alopecia a latin word meaning loss of hair.  One group of alopecia (alopecia areata, alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis)  involve rapid hair loss. Alopecia areata is the most common and is characterized by the loss of of hair clumps leaving one or more round, smooth bald patches. Usually this occurs quickly and the person experiences no symptoms of discomfort or pain, though in very rare cases a mild redness or mild itching may accompany the loss of hair. Alopecia totalis is when total hair loss on the scalp occurs. This type of alopecia can develop either in a sudden, rapid complete hair loss or at a slower rate similar to alopecia areata. The rarest  and most severe type of this group of alopecia is alopecia universalis which is characterized by the the total hair loss on all hair bearing part of the body.

Causes for all types of alopecia are still not fully understood though they are believed to be an autoimmune problem in which lymphocytes (white blood cells) are found in the hair follicles (sacs in where hair begins to develop) in high amounts in people who suffer from alopecia. A number of researches coming from Cuba asserting that alopecia begins with cellular disturbances at the follicle level which decreases the blood flow to the scalp and stimulates the release of antigen substances triggering the immune system to react by sending a high amount of white blood cells and antibodies making it difficult for the follicles to grow hair.  Family history, viruses, infections, certain chemical, hormones and allergens are also thought to be contributors to this condition.

Treatment.

Treatment in Cuba for this disorder is through the use of Piloactive Lotion and Piloactive Shampoo. The success rate (76% based on results obtained by patients) of both lotion and shampoo is due to the fact that they consist of matter derived from the human placenta that regulate the sebaceous glands (glands responsible for moisturizing skin and hair), stimulates regrowth and strengthen hair roots by promoting better blood circulation to the affected area and improves protein development in the follicles.

Piloactive Lotion should be applied once a day by gently rubbing throughout the scalp.  For better results, it is advisable that Piloactive Shampoo should be used at least twice a week.

Piloactive products have no side effects and are safe to treat children, pregnant and nursing women and the elderly.

Consultation with a specialist must first be made in order to receive treatment for the different types of alopecia in Cuba. The specialist will then determine the length of treatment and the number of bottles of the product to be used.

Please note that the medication is not sold without an evaluation of a specialist and without prescription from a qualified doctor.
